Is tattooing banned in the Bible? We say, "No!" Revelation 19:16 in The Message says, "On his robe and thigh is written, King of kings, Lord of lords." As we've said for years, "If it's good enough for my Jesus, it's good enough for me." We do not dispute the scripture in Leviticus that speaks against tattoos, but instead read it in context. It's part of the OLD covenant. All of which was replaced with the new covenant of Jesus Christ.
I've heard people for years quote Leviticus 19:28 to me when condemning what I do. I don't mind defending my position at all. Leviticus 19:28 says, "'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.' Those who routinely use this scripture to decry tattooing are usually fairly cleanshaven, 'righteous' individuals. They usually don't like it when I remind them of the verse which preceeds it, "Leviticus 19:27 'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard."
At 13th Tribe we don't subscribe to the 'erasable Bible' theory. Either it's all God's word, or it's not. The Book of Leviticus is filled with very specific instructions for a specific culture which doesn't exist any longer.
God did not intend for Christians to live to the letter of the law as laid out in the old testament.
